Notta good choice
I have never felt compelled to write a restaurant review until today. I have been on the search for a clean, friendly Caribbean restaurant in Mississauga to enjoy my favourite Island meal - jerk chicken with rice and peas - for quite sometime. It was to my delight when I stumbled upon Reddafire, located in my neighbourhood. My mouth watered at the pictures of delicious Caribbean cuisine that adorn the window of the restaurant as I eagerly walked in. What I walked into was the coldest and rudest stare I have ever gotten from anyone. That stare belonged to a woman dressed in a white chef's uniform leaning over the bar. There were two other people whom I deduced to be staff as well - a man sitting at the bar and another woman sitting at a nearby table. They did not acknowledge my existence at this point either. I said hello in a friendly voice and got nothing in return. The chef looked terribly unhappy about having to serve me. I looked up to the menu overhead while noting the absence of customers amongst the empty tables. At this point I knew I would not be ordering any food. To avoid the awkwardness of just turning around and walking out, I asked to see a take-out menu. The chef replied that there should be some on the counter beside me. There wasn't. Then the man, still sitting, looked over and chimed in saying that he thought there were three takeout menus there. Then the woman sitting nearby told me to go and grab the only paper takeout menu in sight which was slightly crumbled with pen marks, on a table near the door. I said thank you and picked up the menu on my way out. I soon chucked it into a nearby garbage can. The impression the staff at Reddafire made today is enough to earn the restaurant a bad review. Even though I did not order and therefore cannot critique the food, I can only imagine how long ago the food had been prepared and sitting around as customers were certainly not breaking down the door to get in. Good service, in my opinion, is just as important as good food. And quite frankly, Reddafire's service, or lack of service, will make you lose your appetite. Don't bother with this place, they certainly don't about you.
