My husband and I absolutely love this place. The owner is so kind and the food is so home cooked and comforting. The atmosphere has a little to be desired but the other two components make up for it. We drive quite a distance to go and try to every month.
The reason you may see above average ratings here is because Londoners have no clue as what real food quality, flavor, service & atmosphere really is. It's really sad as this review could very well be for all of the restaurants in London.
This is the best curry house in London Ali is always a great attentive host & the bangalore is quality. Hey I'm English it's our national dish I should know!!
I attempted to put in an order for delivery with them and simply requested the final total amount to be put on my credit card which was responded with a yelling man on the other side saying "WHAT IS THIS! I'm RUNING A BUSINESS HERE... I GAVE YOU A ROUGH PRICE" I was shocked... this was utter disrespect, I simply asked for the price. Very dissapointed!!
not the best ive had large veg samosas that where impressive and the food was spiced but not like others I have tried. Little atmosphere pictures of india and thats abour it.
Overall, not a bad experience. I've been there for dinner, and I liked the food; however, I was astounded by the miniscule portion sizes. So, I thought I would give the buffet a shot. Sure enough, the buffet was a better deal. Fairly good selection. My vegetarian friends seemed satisfied. The naan was excellent, and I like the mulligatawny soup. However, I found that the pea dish (forget the name!) seemed undercooked. Some of the vegetables weren't fresh (ex. the peas were obviously freeze dried). Also, the server was really nice; however he took a really long time getting me my chai. My verdict: I would go again, but only for lunch buffet.
Service is always good in the Indian, not in your face way. Food was good, timing was good. I prefer the Bombay Aloo to the Aloo Gobi, but a very good meal.
I'm not sure if the owners have changed, or what, but the girl at the counter(who looked like a student) didn't seem to with it. As I came to pickup my take-out order she asked if I was so and so. When I told her I wasn't so and so, she simply said oh and grabbed the bag of food behind the counter. So I wasn't sure if she was going to give me the bag of food if I was so and so. A really weird experience. In any case, I quickly double-checked that my order was correct. The last time I ordered samosa's they were not very good at all. They seemed to have been reheated. Ah well, I guess it's time to look for another curry place.
everything tasted bad. butter chicken was sweet and watery. overall, nothing tasted like it should have. i am dissapointed and feel sick now.
I go here for lunch buffet during the week. The food is excellent and the buffet is only 8.99. I recommend this place to anyone because it is just so good and there is something for everyone. The best Indian food in town!
We have ordered delivery from here many times and the food is always great!
Visited this restaurant for Saturday lunch and was surprised that their buffet price was the same as a weekday ($7.95). The food was very tasty with a great variety for the price. There are both meat and vegetable dishes, all which were to my satisfaction. The waiter was very polite and promptly removed dishes from the table. The restaurant was also clean and neat. I would definitely visit this restaurant again, and regardless of the price, the food is amazing!
This place is great. I am still daydreaming about the Naan bread...it's THAT good.
Hands down the best Indian in town!!! the Lunch Buffet is only $7.99 and the Tandoori Chicken is amazing. go!
The food is great. I have tried almost all the curries. The samosa's are okay. They used to be better, but I think it depends on when you go. You can order spicier curry's, which adds to the flavour and the nan bread is the best in the city. However, if you are looking to get in and then out quickly...you will not get quick service. I think most of the customers have been here before and know the drill. I only go when I am not in a rush.
Very friendly, but occasionally inattentive staff, normal setting, good food - still looking for a really good London curry. Recommendable though.
We ordered take-out and were VERY disappointed with the following: - the beef and vegetable dishes were tiny but they gave us two full containers of rice (who wants that much rice??) - we ordered 3 naan bread but only got 2 - the vegetable pakoras and chicken tikka was dried out - the cucumber rhaita was too runny and again, not very much was given to us - butter chicken was a bit pink on the inside (was it properly cooked???) - for $12 per dish, you would expect the containers to be full of food, but there was barely enough to feed 2 people, never mind 4. - i doubt the food is fresh because our take-out order was available too soon for it to be fresh (we purposefully called 45-60 mins in advance so that they could have time to prepare the food...it was ready in 20 mins). While some of the food was tasty, we will not be returning to Jewel of India - it was not good value for money at all.
