BUGS IN THE WHISKEY when it was pointed out server said they must have fallen in, manager was rude and rolled eyes
Disgusting over priced food. Stay away from this one. They say its fresh but its not fresh at all, frozen food recooked.
I came to this restaurant for my father's birthday and the food was incredible. It is an authetic portuguese restaurant on James street in Hamilton. For an appetizer we had the Bruchetta, which is baked pizza style bread topped with tomato, onion and garlic. Yumm! For the dish I ate the Filete com arroz, which is fish filete with seafood rice. The dish cost $17 but was really cheap considering the amount of food that was provided. I will definetely return to this restaurant and recommend anyone to try this place. They have a large menu with many options. If you havent tried portuguese food or just love the food, you wont be disappointed at the Wild Orchid.
In regards to the inappropriate photos posted on this page. These photos have absolutely nothing to do with WILD ORCHID RESTAURANT and were NOT taken in our resataurant. Someone is deliberately trying to tarnish our reputation. We apologize on their bahalf. We have reported it, and are still waiting for the photos to be removed.
The birthday boy loves fish and we had not been in years so now was the time. Everthing was delicious & service was good. The boy had a sea bass for the 1st time and was very happy with it. Seafood platter really is too much work & messy. The place was not busy for a Saturday night and the atmosphere seemed blassé. Server was bright & cheery & helpful w/o being a pest which is great.
In love with this place! I eat out a lot!..., A lOT! But this is definitely an ultimate favorite! I love bringing new people here, the portions, delicious food, and homemade feel always impress! The menu is large! And I've probably had almost everything on it. The breads are so good! The mussles and pitchers of sangria on the patio in the summer are absolutely delicious! Sardines, yum! Octopus (made with potatoes... Mmm!) seafood lovers special!!! So much seafood I have no idea how they make money! The shrimp.. (peel em yourself! They're tastier that way I think! Still good the other way though:) Oh the lamb! Just falls apart! So much to choose from, gotta try this gem of a restaurant!
We have been here twice and both times were disappointed in the service but mostly the food. Our friends convinced us to go the second time. The second was no better then the first!! This restaurant needs to get a happier staff and better food on the menu.
Terrific place for seafood lovers! Great atmosphere, authentic tasty Portuguese food (according to my brother who visits Portugal often). Loved the green wine & appetizers. My husband & I have found the main meals are hit & miss... I've loved mine both times we've eaten here (rabbit, salmon fettucini) while his were less exciting (eg. plate of pork & clams left a bit to be desired). My family ordered bacalhau dishes and overall were very pleased.
Not one bad thing to say! Unless you can complain about too much food! But you know what they say, you can never have too much of a good thing! Around 8 of us went for one of my girlfriends birthday. We live in Toronto, but my girlfriend swears by this restaurant and it was her birthday so we decided to take the drive. So happy we did! I may have found my new favorite restaurant!!! We each had a different dish so we could sample eachothers and they were all sooooo delicious! ! I myself am Portuguese, and each dish was like a home cooked meal! We were all extremely impressed! The server was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy! We will definitely be back!
Visited for the first time, not bad overall, calamari and the salad could be better. Portion size is acceptable and menu has good variety.
favorite place to eat ! Great menu lots to choose from, great music great times, they been around for along time but very consistant , big portions and good quality very very affordable!!
I went to Wild Orchid with my family for Mothers day and the service was the worst service I have ever experienced....Our waitress took our order and gave one round of drinks...brought our food and never came back to ask if we needed anything or how the food was.....We ate our food with no beverages left...One of us ordered the Codfish and it tasted like cardboard...there was no flavour at all. We were tired of waiting for our server who abandoned us so we went to find her to bring our bill...we mentioned we have been ignored and that if she checked on us we could have told her that the codfish had no flavour...or maybe we could have gotten something to drink....she insincerely appoligized and said she would speak to the owner...the owner basically told her to tell us that thats how its supposed to taste....and to top it off the waitress was super friendly to the table in front of us saying "have a good day" and "Happy Mothers day" and for us all she did was drop the bill and ran off ........My family and I will NEVER go there again!
My girlfriend took me here for our aniversary. The atmosphere was bland and a little tacky. Because there was a large party, we were grossly ignored. The waitress forgot our appetizer and I had to nurse my beer like it was a terminal patient. My food arrived a little over an hour and a half into the service. My lamb was of a reasonable consistency but totally under seasoned. The presentation was hideous and looked like it had been scooped out of basting pot with a ladle and slopped onto the plate. My girlfriend's cod arrived about ten minutes after my lamb. I tasted it and would equate it to a wet rubber band smuthered in raw garlic. Utter trash. My girlfriend had two bites and called it quits. All they offered was an appology which was annoying because instead of actually saying sorry the waitress repeated "I appoligize" Like it was part of a script. If you see a large party there leave and save yourself the impending two hours of substandard dining.
Food was amazing, Portions are huge, prices is very reasonable not your average Portuguese restaurant. Suprised how good the service was despite being really busy.
Being Italian and a fish lover i've been going to the wild Orchid for years and never been disappointed! Been to all the others even in Toronto and they don't even compare! Hamilton you got a great thing here!
My son loves this place so he took me for the experience. I found it really quaint but seating too close together. Service started off good but went downhill after that. Appetizer took an hour to come and I was disappointed to see a few sliced sausages on a plate drowned in oil and a dab of goat cheese. Wasn't worth the wait. Entrees took another 1/2 hour. Total time from start to finish was over 2 hours. Portions of entrees were huge. Hardly touched mine because I had filled up with drinks & bread waiting so long for food. Not acceptable.
Not a good experience! Food was bland and the service was too slow. I love Portuguese food but this time I was disapointed.
The rabbit was surprisingly good, nice flavour, not too overcooked, the rabbit's oil combined well with the sauce underneath. The roasted potatoes were fantastic, crispy on the outside, soft inside, perfect flavour and consistency. The grilled calamari was also good - some bits were a tad rubbery but the barbecue flavour was evident and the salad dressing was nice and spicy. Wild Orchid could do a bit more to up its image (butter packages instead of dipping oil or fresh butter, 1970s diner-style salt and pepper shakers) but it provides a solid meal for a good price.
I have been in the restaurant several times, and I wanted to impress my mother, and I did since it take more than two hours to ger the food, from 6:45 p.m. to 9:05 p.m. that is unacceptable in a first class restaurant.
In a word, disappointing. After reading a number of reviews, and hearing positive things from friends, we decided to try this restaurant for dinner. Everything that we ordered (appetizer, main course, and dessert) was bland or overcooked. The olives in the appetizer where stale and not very tasty; also, for an antipasto platter, there wasn't much variety. The steak was very tough, and the cod was chewy and overcooked with a very oily and bland sauce. The dessert tasted like something off the box of a Jello pudding mix. When trying a new restaurant, we know that some dishes might be less appealing than others. However, at the Wild Orchid, everything that we ordered was disappointing. I doubt that we will return.
