Bad service and bad food first the last time never come back.
I got here for lunch often because it is close to my work. Prior to that my boyfriend took me a few times too, since he lives nearby and loves the place. I'm quite surprised at some of the reviews here though. I love the place! I feel very welcomed, the service is good, and the atmosphere is quite nice. I've never been disappointed with their food, and find the quality much better than some restaurants. That said, I would note that I find them to be a bit pricey. So overall, it's a great place! If you like friendly staff, good food, and nice environment go here.
We go to Sushi Ya at least once a month and throughly enjoy each visit. The staff are very friendly, you are seated quickly, and "Speedy" the chef rocks. Try to sit close enough to the counter to see him do his thing creating the food. It's great entertainment. We've never been disappointed with the staff's suggestions/recommendations. Lunch times are incredibly busy there and parking may be a problem.
I don't really think it is fair for the staff and owner to review their own restaurant. This place was a sordid disappointment. After reading all the reviews we headed down for some good sushi and sashimi. Trust me when I tell you the chef here is clueless as to the art of fish. This is the type of place where corporate workers in the vicinity or suburban housewives trying to lose weight by eating so-called Japanese come for box lunch specials for $14.99. The choices are hardly Japanese, the nigiri menu is sparse and limp, the cuts are all wrong and you basically get the picture that they cater to chicken teriyaki crowd that wants lunch specials. For real sushi please find a real Japanese restaurant.
The staff makes everyone feel welcome! The service is fast and reliable. I've been to many Sushi and Japanese places and this is by far the best. By best I mean the others are 5-6/10 compared to this place. The price is about $20-$25 for a dinner. This gives you a pleasing and filling meal. The food is always fresh! Even the Teriyaki is better here than any place I've eaten at and I don't usually order Teriyaki so that says a lot :P I recommend this place to all who like sushi.
This is the best place that I can find for sushi. If you want real quality and service this is the place to go. It is small but very beautiful. the food is always changing and interesting because the chef continues to put his own twists on all variations of sushi. I have been to tons of places but this is the only place I rely on to get good sushi 100% of the time. The review above that gave it a 3 was written by an idiot. The chef knows my name, customers have bought me meals there as have I bought them, the atmosphere is purely amazing and genuine. It is not a hollywood movie. Anyone looking for a great place to become a regular this is the stop for you. I get free appetizers all the time not just samples. They treat us well and great me and my friends no matter how busy. I am thankful that a place like this exists to satisfy my sushi cravings. P.S. Order the Marco Pollo Roll! A texan first introduced me to it and bought mine, and my friends entire meal that night 225$!
This is a cute little place. As soon as you walk in there is someone immediately to greet you and seat you. Nice decor, clean and the staff dressed in traditional Japanese wear. The food is great, love it! Everytime I come to Toronto I make it a point to go and eat there. They often offer a taste of something off the menu on the house. Service is pretty fast, can get busy during lunch hour. After you have paid the bill and head to the door, the Sushi chefs say goodbye and thank you, even if they have to shout. It is on the pricey side, but I think worth it. Try it out and judge for yourself.
I eat at this restuarant once every two weeks, it is probably the best sushi restuarant in the west end, and that's coming from someone who has had quite a bit of Sushi even in Japan. The fish is always fresh, and the ala carte Sushi is extremely high quality, as evidenced by: - the chef pays attention to where on the fish the sushi is cut from and how it is cut (the direction of the fat lines). - minimal rice is used on the nigiri, and the rice is shaped into neat small rectangles. this is always a sign of a high end sushi restaurant - excellent quality, freshness. The atmosphere is very classy but the prices are average, great date place or place to unwind.
The staff are polite and acknowledg you apon walking in. I really enjoy watching the staff prepare my meal. I like knowing what's ging into my food. thanks miki
The food was 'ok' but the sizes were small and the price was very high. If the prices were lower I would go back to this restaurant, but I can go to other restaurants where the food is better, larger portions, and a fraction of the price. The service was very good though.
The food was absolutley amazing and the service spectacular. I eat sushi about three times a week and this place is now my favourite. The service was excellent. Food was fast, service fantastic and ambience is authentic. Highly recommended
Decor: waiters (all female) dressed in kimonos, very kitschy decorations. Looked like a Disney movie. Food: miso soup extremely salty, sushi pcs small and looked like they had been sitting out for a while, tempura soggy, salmon sashimi still had skin, teriyaki sauce overly sweet. Very disappointing, considering price. Menu: Did not allow ordering sashimi a la carte!!! Service: The only thing not ordered off the lunch menu (the Alaska rolls) was made incorrectly not once, but twice. First they forgot the avocado, then they remembered the avocado but forgot the tobiko (which they sprinkled on and sent back). Price: Overpriced. As an example, a set of rolls that normally goes for $7 cost $9 and $3 more if you wanted to upgrade from 6 to 8pcs. Summary: I would never eat here again. It felt like a trap for people who don't know that you can get better sushi with a better selection for a better price (in a setting that doesn't assume your only idea of Japan is based on Hollywood) pretty much anywhere else in Toronto.
