Food is wonderful. Staff are friendly. Steaks done to perfection. Prices are amazing. Absolutely the best "bang for your buck". This is the restaurant that we try and measure others up to.
the best steak you will ever have! would be nice to have fresh veg from the area instead of frozen peas and carrots. the salad bar is just right... fresh and not complicated (love the cheese and the pickles).
We have been here twice now on our visits to the area and both times it was spectacular. The wait is sometimes a bit long as they seem understaffed but the food and service makes up for it. Everything is home made and delicious. Portions are large and more than fair for the price. All items we have had except the fish and chips were awesome, those just had far too much batter. The salad bar is quite good too, always fresh and a nice treat which you wait for the main event. My mom goes just for the double pork chops. My dad's steak was so large and delicious he was still eating it 2 days later. This place is a must stop.
Elvis ate here (or could have.) We were in town for the Elvis festival and I had a hankering for a good steak, so we made the 7km drive out to the Rock Dell. Not much to look at from the outside and quite frankly not great inside except that it looked like it had stopped in time in the early 60's. How appropriate. This atmosphere is also augmented by their choice of background music, (Not Elvis or rock and roll. You get enough of that in town on this weekend.). More "Theme from Summer Place" type. Which suited us fine. The first thing I noticed was that the entrees included soup and salad bar as well as rolls, a choice of potato, a pile of mushrooms and a veggie.. We both had the New York strip. (You have most of the usual steak choices but no rib eye which would have been our usual choice.) The food was also what you would expect in a 1960 restaurant. Ample, slightly overcooked carrots, unseasoned (rather tasteless) fries and an extremely spartan "salad bar". The steak, however, was a very generous 10 oz. (12 oz is also available.) and was very good. The salad bar was made up of a mixture of lettuce and cabbage with 4 choices of dressing plus pickles and cheese. However, in its way, appropriate to the occasion. The soup (beef and noodles in this case) was very good and possibly made from scratch. I asked the friendly waitress whether she knew how to make a vodka martini and she assured me that she did. The result was presented with both olives and a slice (not a twist), a slice of lemon hung on the side along with a glass of ice (in case I wanted to put it on the rocks I suppose.) However, it was drinkable. The house "red" was an OK Greek wine. Now, under normal circumstances, I might be a little upset over some of these deficiencies, but for some reason or other, everything came together nicely and the experience was just about what we wanted. After all, we were somewhere between Collingwood and Wasaga Breach not in downtown Toronto. Oh yes, did I mention that the prices were from the '60s also? I can't remember the last time I had a decent steak meal with cocktails and a half litre of wine for well under $100cdn for two. It should be noted here, that we lived through the '60s and my martini was a double so this review is slightly tainted by nostalgia and alcohol.
This is a great restaurant if you like meat and potatoes. The meal sizes are huge and the price is reasonable. The steak is great. It is not a fancy fine dining place but the food is hearty and very good. I have been many times and will definitely go back many more times.
I had the most amazing birthday ever at the Rockwell last Saturday night. It was my 40th Birthday and we had a party of 20. The food was absolutely incredible, I can’t honestly say I have had lobster and a steak that superb. The service was outstanding, the waitresses couldn’t have been more attentive to my friends and family. The restaurant had a real warm and comfortable ambience. All my guests were very impressed with their food and had raving reviews. One of the members of our party is a frequent diner in fine restaurants and he was extremely impressed with the quality and quantity . I would just like to thank the Rockwell for the most amazing Birthday ever. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I know you will be extremely satisfied with your meal and service.
We have been going to the Rock Dell for many, many years. My very favorite is the veal. The veal is so tender and done to perfection. The QUALITY, QUANTITY AND SERVICE IS OUTSTANDING. I have been reading some of the reviews placed by people who have visited the restaurant, and one in particular got my attention. The couple out for Birthday dinner. They were complaining about the chair being bumped and the food was not to their liking. I would like to inform that couple that you should have asked the Hostess if you could move to another table, I know they would have done their best to accomodate you. As far as your meal, well we all make mistakes, don't we? Sometimes I overcook or under cook things when their is activity going on in my house, and I'm sure you have. I know this restaurant, and they never would have brought your steak back cut into six pieces. Don't you think you are "overdoing" this a bit. In the long run, you both got your meal for free. So this prompts me to ask, "do you do this at other establishments??
We have been to many restaurant from different classes and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The atmosphere was amazing not to mention the exceptional service we received and the quality of food for the price was unbelieveable for the quality and quantity of food and would drive the distance to experience it again!:) And we will definitely be dining there again. All meals were roughly $13 to $38 dollars and that included soup, salad, vegatables, and your choice of potato and an enormous meal. By the time we left we also had alot to take with us and were more than satisfied. Myself i had the Surf and turf and the lobster tail was the largest i have ever had, must have been at least 10 oz. and the filet migon was just so tender it melted in my mouth. We celebrated a birthday that day and they made it a memorable experience for us all. It was nice to see that the Surf and turf was served with the highest quality steak as opposed to ny striploin or any other, that made my dinner as good as it gets. You can tell that this family business is run in a professional and orderly manner and having been in business for 30 years speaks for itself. Thank you Rockdell you should be awarded for you dedication in dining. Thanks Chantal for your exceptional service and looking forwatrd to seeing you again! Cheers!!:)
Liver and onions is one of my absolute favourite dinners so when friends said that the Rock Dell Steak House served a very tasty liver & onions I simply had to try it. My liver arrived raw in the middle. It was not a very pleasant thing to try to eat raw liver. We ended up paying for our meal but we left without eating. The waitress did not seemed concerned that the meat was raw or that we had not eaten our dinners. I guess they must be used to the cook under cooking meat and no one eating it. I don't know if I'll go back.
It was my birthday and we made reservations. We had eaten here before and liked the restaurant and the food. They seated us right next to the bar area and every time a server passed by they would nudge my husband's chair. He has some very painful medical conditions and each time he was jostled it would send shooting pain through his body. As a consequence he had to take more of his pain medication. When our steak arrived we cut into them and were horrified to see a pool of blood seep out onto our plates. I ordered medium and he ordered medium well. We both told the server we couldn't eat it and to please take it away. Another server (owner or hostess?) came over and apologized then asked me to put the steak on my bread plate which I did. When the server came back over I had to ask her to please remove the blood filled dinner plates as it was making my stomach churn. She did. She said they would not charge us for the steaks. Our steaks were returned, mine on a bread plate, cut into about six different pieces. I was so upset and grossed out that I couldn't touch the steak. The server came back over to again apologize. I was so upset that I began to cry. I told her that (a) the table they placed us at was terrible, in a high traffic area and my husband was in a lot of pain from his chair being constantly bumped and (b) it was my birthday and we had intended to have a romantic dinner and (d) I was so grossed out by the blood on my plate that I could not take one bite of the steak nor could I eat my lobster tail or baked potato, etc. My husband had hardly eaten anything as he had lost his appetite. We received another apology and were not charged anything which was nice but our appetites and our evening which was my birthday celebration) was ruined. My husband says he will never go back there again, I would like to try them again if they could assure me that an incident like this would not occur again. You would think a steak house would know that steak can not be recooked without making it tough. They should have brought a new steak, not reheat the one they had screwed up and hack it into numerous pieces to see if it was cooked!
Were in Wasaga for the week. Went Canada day on the advice of friends - WOW!! Fantastic filet done to perfection and massive labster tail. House white wine is a Greek Kavos which is remarkably like a Pinot Grigio. Liked it so much we went back on the following Friday!! Great server looks like a young Kate Hudson and is a sweetheart.
We went here for the first time last night for our wedding anniversary. We actually had to reserve because they were having a special anniversary thing themselves. We had heard that the food was good here but oh my goodness, that was an understatement. The lobster was 9-10 oz and was sweet and succulent. The steak was incredible. I am not one for Greek salad but it was quite nice. If I had to find any fault with our dining experience it would be that some of my meal was cold. The corn was cold and the butter couldn't melt on it, my steak was on the cool side too ... but I would still give this restaurant an overall 10 rating because cold food here is better than hot food at any other restaurant we've been to. Oh and my steak was rare inside instead of medium but hey ... it WAS delicious so I wasn't going to complain. Our friends say that the servings are large and that you need to take home a doggie bag which is really another two meals. We couldn't do that with the lobster but I did bring home 3/4 of my steak to snack on later. I found it was red inside. I nuked it in the microwave to cook it more and it still was tender and oh so delicious. The service was wonderful too. It's nice inside and very clean. We will definately go back and try another meal there, we hear the liver is to die for!
To the reviewer who ordered vegetarian... this is the Rock Dell Steakhouse. It is a carnivores delight. It was our first time visiting and would definitely recommend it. The platter for 2 will overwhelm you so don't order appetizers. Hopefully you already arrived with an appetite. No it's not a fine dining experience but on a price/quality ratio it seemed very good to me. We'll be back.
Good, fast, big portions. Do yourself a huge favour and get the filet mignon - only $2 more !!! NY 12 oz. was disappointing, but 12 oz. filet mignon has always been delicious. and don't eat lunch before you go there for supper.
As always the food, service and price where wonderful.A very friendly family run business that makes you welcome always and wanting to come back time and time again!
Excellent food and service, would definately visit again, a very friendly and inviting atmosphere
Food was great. If you are a carnivore you will love this place!
soup and salad were nothing special just plain...the meat was delicious - huge portions too...enough for a second sitting, very busy spot but that adds to the atmosphere...excellent service, will return again and again
We booked weeks in advance for my husbands 60th birthday - we arrived at 7pm - ordered our food and it arrived at 9pm. We had a vegetarian in our company who was told - only the salad and baked potato available for vegetarians, 2 hours later there were no baked potatoes left, although she ordered at 7pm, - was offered fries or mushrooms ?????????????????? Explanation - we have other parties and they ordered first.
Rockdell came recommended by friends. The steaks were average, grotesquely overpriced for the quality, a little gristly and very salty. The waitress pulled a switch with our bottle of wine - a pricy bottle of Australian red came to the table already open with dubious contents. Restaurant is a bit on the shabby side.
