Amazing Dinner Experience!

When it comes to fine dining, Lord Nelsons definitely does not disappoint. With delicious food and quality service, I would have to say this is one of the classiest restaurants in the Hamilton area. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the warming and peaceful atmosphere. There are only a handful of tables and a bar in the whole restaurant and it makes for a almost private and intimate dinner experience. This is not a jeans and t-shirt type of place, everyone inside is dressed professional and fancy. I would recommend a dress and heels for the women and dress pants and button down shirt for the men. And obviously from my previous statements this is not really what I would call a family restaurant. With the close tables and quiet music I would think children would feel out of place at an establishment like this. Nonetheless I feel like it is a great date night place, very romantic and relaxing. The menu I would say is perfect for the restaurant. It includes a variety of different meal choices but doesn't overwhelm the customer. We had chosen the Peppercorn steak and the Filet mignon for our main courses. I would say that they were better then what I expected, cooked and seasoned perfectly, I would definitely recommend there food to anyone. The main courses range anywhere from $20 - $60 which is a little higher then your average dinner but in the end I think it is worth the little extra price for the quality. The only concern I had about going here was their location. It was a little difficult to find as it is located in a small plaza tucked away beside a laundromat. Also the exterior of the restaurant is not what you would expect for a high class place like this, and I didn't find it all that appealing. The front doors are very Castle like and there are no windows at all. At first glance I thought it was closed. But if you can get past that It was great experience and I would recommend it to anyone.

We ended up leaving........

My husband and I went to this place last Sunday night, looking forward to a quiet romantic dinner. We have been here before and enjoyed it, but it is pricey. I don't know anywhere that charges $35dollars for a shrimp cocktail, and the wines are ridiculously high. Nonetheless, we went back and ended up walking out after our drinks, and thankfully before ordering food. A party of about eight came in after us, and we were dismayed to see about six young kids in the group. You could hear the whining and wheedling before they reached their seats, and one of them started incessantly kicking his seat. Of course, the parents had no control and did little more than the standard insipid shussing that their brats ignored. One of the boys, about eight, was told by his father he "wanted to talk to him", presumably in a feeble attempt to control him and the brat replied "Well I don't want to talk to you". I have given up hope expecting most of today's parents to have any consideration for others, in public when it comes to imposing their brats on others, but the fact that a restaurant with these prices allow this to happen is unacceptable in our books. There is a separate room they could have seated this noisy group in, but they put them out with everyone else and had no concern whatsoever in how it affected the rest of the room. The whining and pleading and shushing continued (the pleading being done by the boorish parents) so we asked our waiter for the cheque. No questions were asked as to why we were leaving ( I think they knew) and we had made reservations ahead of time. I guess the good old days of adult only atmospheres and "seen and not heard" are gone, but we were sure not going to drop about 200-300 dollars in a place that permits this. We left and went to Lord Byron's in Waterdown, and the 10 minute drive was worth it. Not only is the food every bit as good, its cheaper. Their shrimp cocktail was 15dollars, not 35. We won't be going back.

I've been in the resto biz for 25 years, all fine dining serving, managment, etc. Wine prices are exorbitant. Oysters Rockefeller good, but disappointing due to processed cheese slices and knorr hollandsaise sauce, surely at these prices you could do better!!! Still nice atmosphere. Too bad later on, maitre 'd and hostess get drunk behind the bar...ugly.

A Great Dining Experience in Burlington

What a gem my friends and I discovered in The Lord Nelson. We had heard about it for years and finally checked it out after watching their video on yp.ca. We were not disappointed. A beautiful, modern dining room and a friendly greeting was our first "taste" of the night... and it only got better. We started at the bar for a cocktail (best Manhattan EVER!) and then we moved into the dining room. Complimentary home-made garlic bread and pate was brought out once our order was placed and our server was professional, friendly and helpful. We were also very impressed by the wine list, which was one of the best I have seen west of Toronto (or even in Toronto for that matter), with great selections in every price range, and great representation from many countries. When was the last time you had Ceasar salad made from scratch at your table-side?? How retro and awesome! A few of us started with this and it was hard to decide what we liked more... the taste of the fantastic salad or the entertainment of watching it being made for us! The other favorite starters of the night were Oysters Rockafeller and the House-made Crab Cakes. When the main courses arrived everyone was thrilled - the steaks looked amazing but I went with the Dover Sole - also brought out on a cart and filleted for me by the owner, Nick, himself! Divine. Hands down one of my favorite preparations of this fish I have ever had. Not a single person was disappointed with their meal. The fun continued when we ordered Cherries Jubilee for dessert - a masterpiece of table-side service as this again is prepared and flambeed right in front of you, to order. Of course we couldn't help but have speciality coffees and dessert wine... Thanks Lord Nelson, we couldn't have asked for a better night.
