Sonny's Drive In welcomes you to their dining room. They are open late Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and during week-ends. You can get there not only by car but also by public transit. The surrounding location is remarkable for its parks and restaurants.
Terrible service, terrible food, terrible staff, terrible owner. Such an unprofessional environment. If you're Caucasian, you'll probably love it because they'll treat you like royalty here.
Ive been going to Sonnys since 1976 and when I left Brampton in 1990 I always looked forward to my return visits But the last few years since the fire and the retirement of the original owners has left me disappointed.
The fries are lousy (used to be the best) there not home made anymore as I witnessed the owner bringing them in from his car.
All original customers remember watching the process of the fries being cut and blanched as we waited for our orders during afternoon visits oh those days are gone now I wont be back!
No reason unless they start doing the fries the old way(the machine is still in the back)
I been eating sonnys since I was a pup!! It use to be the landmark of brampton. The king of all food in brampton! But not anymore. I will never forget when sonnys had a big fire years ago and the whole town went into panic! Then they made there big come back! And it was a short rein. This use to be the best french fries in the world hands down. Now they taste like a cheap downgraded pree blanched potato. A lot of these places think half cooking there fries and throwing them in for a minute b4 order is the same thing as cooking them fresh but its not! They now have the chalky partially undercooked frozen taste and anyone who's been eating here for a while can tell. I know sonnys has a hudge volume of business for the small space their in but I believe this ruiend them. I never been big on their burgers I find them basic. They taste like harveys 2 me. How hard is it to cook a decent burger, heat up a bun on the grill, and make crispy fries? Obviously impossible if you're the line cook at sonny's. Just absolutely awful. Perfect restaurant for the uninformed and inebriated.
This is one of the best places for a burger in Brampton. Yes, it is $$$ for food there, but worth every penny. I say you get what you pay for. Portions are great, and the only bad thing I can say about them is they only take cash and no Interac.
After hearing so many rave reviews of this popular Brampton spot I had to check it out for myself. Being a lover of chicken I went for the chicken fingers and fries. The portions are absolutely huge, way too much for one person. Its not really food you can save so I find this wasteful, but if you share its definitely a good bargain. The chicken fingers were delicious but I expected better from the fries. I hear constant raves about the poutine in particular so I had expected way better fries, maybe the ones I got were just a bad batch. Either way this joint is definitely worth the visit. That said while I get that its a drive in I actually don't care much for the eating in my parked car aspect of the place.
The ownership has changed from the Greek couple that owned it with his brother in-law and wife for over 20 years. Food brings me back to 1960's when a hamburger combo(fries and pop) cost $0.80...The inside hasn't changed that much...I had(June,5th.2011 at 18:55hrs) a cheese burger/fries & gravy YUMMMM and pop. BEST IN BRAMPTON the fried onions on my burger made my day..Drove from Milton just for a Sonny's....
Everything you get at sonnys is amazing. Since its open until 4am theres always a rush around 2am of all the drunks coming in to grab their cravings. Everything is a large portion, when I order a burger its the only thing I can eat - I don't even attempt to order fries or rings to go with. If you've grown up in Bramption then you'll know that Sonny's is a part of its heritage. Summer nights wouldn't be summer nights without a walk to Sonny's. WOO HOO
Just found this place recently and it has great food !! Was amazed actually. They have a harvey's like setting, where u can tell them what u want on your burger.
Prices are good too. Now that i've found this place, i'm going to eat there everytime i have a craving for burgers, rather than going to mcdonalds and wasting my money there.

I have been going to Sonny's for 26 years and it is truly a Brampton Icon. Is it angus burgers and salmon filets, at 12 bucks a burger NO. It is a drive in restaurant that simply serves good food! For 10 bucks you can get a burger, fries and a drink, topped how you want. No lettuce, I know but with open doors, I'm sure noone would want letuce out all day anyway.
They are fast, and fill the hunger void at 3am.
The staff, are excellent, even at 3am dealing with drunks. Shout out to Johnny, your burger master, he has made Sonnys the great place it is today since 1969.
Only a few months ago I met a family that moved to DUBAI and had to come to Sonnys when they came to town.

I'm not sure what all the hype is about. First of all the place looks absolutely awful....and yeah that does matter. I can't eat somewhere if it looks like a dump. Don't you ever wonder how your food is being prepared if the place is not kept well. Not to mention it's all heart attack food.....too greasy!! Never again.
One look at Sonny's (from the outside) and you're probably thinking "This doesn't look like a great place to eat." And who could blame you? The sign is faded and the building architecture is almost non-existent; it's a small box-like structure building.
A co-worker highly recommended the "Banquet Burger" offered at Sonny's. I decided to visit Restaurantica and see what my fellow reviewers had to say about this place. For the most part, the reviews were positive. But I'm not one who's easily impressed. So last night I decided to try them out.
The environment : Unless you're willing to sit outside on one of the few picnic tables they have positioned right in front of their establishment, be prepared to eat in your vehicle or failing that, on the curb outside. They do not have a dine-in option. You simply order, and when your food is ready you're out the door.
My Order : Instead of the "Banquet Burger" I decided to go with the Double beef burger with cheese, fries & a Coke. The burger had a very homemade taste & texture to it. Not only that, but it was extremely filling!
Whenever I go to the bigger chain-based burger joint I usually go to (without saying their name, think about a King who wears a crown...Hint Hint) I can eat their double hamburger sandwich with fries and a medium coke and if I wanted to, I could eat more. After I ate Sonny's burger though, I really struggled to finish my fries! I felt like my gut was about to explode! One thing I noticed about the fries; I don't think they added any salt when they were making the fries. So I went back in, and threw some ketchup, salt & some ground pepper onto my fries and that did the trick! While the blandness of the fries may seem like a bad thing, I actually think it's really cool that the consumer gets to decide whether or not he/she wants to add salt and/or condiments to their fries. There's only one portion size for the fries as far as I could tell but we're talking a big portion. Sonny's offers the exact same portion as those mobile french fry trucks do, at the flea markets. If you don't know what I'm referring to....just trust me when I say it's a big portion. Overall I'd say the meal was a bit pricier by a couple of bucks, in contrast to it's competitors but it was worth every cent.
Payment : They accept cash & they also accept debit as a form of payment, however any order under $10 and you're looking at a minuscule $0.25 charge administrative fee, so you might have to hold off on buying that Porsche. ;)
I'm not sure about credit card as a form of payment though as I forgot to ask. :(
Interesting: If you look on their wall, you'll see a sign that promotes the sale of official Sonny's gear like baseball caps, toques & shirts! I wonder how many they've actually sold.
Conclusion : Despite the old faded look of the building, the lack of the dine-in facilities & it's higher than average pricing... I would STRONGLY recommend you give them a try!

One of the most iconic buildings in Brampton. Its looks may be deceiving but Sonny's continually delivers the best burger&fries in Brampton! Definitely go on a Friday or Saturday night to do people watching and sit outside on the picnic benches. Great memories!
Friday night and 11:15. Everywhere else, the parking lots and drive thru's were empty. This place was full so thought I would give it a try. FANTASTIC! Definitely will be going back.
