This place is usually very good but I was there 2 weeks ago and it was awful!!!the Koftas had obviously just come out of the fridge or freezer and they were either cold in the centre or tiny and hard. There were no Nanaimo bars on the dessert station and the the cakes were dry
Worst service i have ever seen. I have been going Brar for years but now i find didficult getting anything from there due to worst service, no process, rude manager who instead if taking my feedback to improve, tries to scold me. I ordered 3 things and for that they made me waiting 2 times in 2 different queues. And after that i waited 10 mnts for order to come, but they come up asking what did i order. Very rude manager.
I must say i have eaten at many different place in GTA and outside and am a big fan of Indian food. The place is clean and inviting, service is professional and food is fresh and flavorful, but it could be better with less items on the buffet but offering some different and distinct taste. Good value though.
I am a vegetarian critic, very hard to please. I must say this place provides everything that I love, excellent service from the manager to the waiter Shaffie, knows me by face, do not need my name. Service is always excellent and prompt. Never had dirty glasses etc. The waiters and managers know that I love to eat with a knife, and I have never had to ask for it when I sit at my table. The food is astounding, although I have never tried everything in one meal. The ambiance is beautiful but the NOISE disrupts the flow of a peaceful evening. Dosas need to be bigger and less cooked. The lady always tries to fill the grill and burns the dosas. Plus dosas are not available at lunchtime. Wished that they took reservations because it is painful when there is a birthday or a special event and there is a long wait. One thing that kills me is the price. I use to be there twice a week but now I can only afford it every 6 months. Plus drinks should be free for the exhoribitant price. Overall, delicious food if you can afford it!
LOVE this restaurant. My family owns a business a few minutes away and we have dinner here at least once a month (sometimes twice a month when we can afford it) and pick up their legendary samosas AT LEAST once a week. We go there so often, they actually recognize us. The female supervisor of the waitresses doesn't even ask us for our name anymore, lol. The last month that they were closed for renovations has been particularly upsetting because we've been picking up samosas at other restaurants, and they just don't compare. The buffet at other restaurants can be hit or miss but this particular restuarant is always stellar. The tableware is always sparkling clean, the food is always hot and tastes fresh. The serving staff is very attentive and polite. They will have our business as long as they are open, which, I hope, is forever :)
The best ethnic restaurant out there? In terms of food yes, there is a wide range of indian cuisine. In terms of service, not really as there always seems to be a huge rush. All in all the buffet is amazing and you will always leave feeling content and full.
Forget the ambiance. Food is ok but for every thing you will have to wait for along time . Weekend visit ? No way. Atmosphere resembles Indian Railway canteen. So much noise. I wanted to book the table but I was told that no need to book and I can walk in. Upon reaching wait time was 20 minutes but it took about 45 minutes. Drinking Water & paper napkins service was so poor..Very disappointing experience.
This place needs serious clean up of their utensils. There are lip-stick marks around the water glass. It clearly shows its been only rinsed and re-used. Food range is very good and kid oriented. Overall not bad, quite a busy place too.
I've been here several times and each time has been really good. There is ample parking space outside the restaurant which puts you in a good mood before even walking in. It is usually very busy over the weekends but the service is prompt. The interiors are nice and the atmosphere is entirely family-like. But lets come to the real deal: the food-I can easily say that it holds the biggest platter of vegetarian Indian food I've ever seen at a restaurant. It is almost impossible to try everything and yet you want to. They have a dish or two for you to try from almost every part of the country and somehow they still manage to expand their menu every year. The food is absolutely delicious! It is cooked perfectly right down to the salt and pepper. Moreover, the servers are quick and friendly and the surroundings clean. My take on the restaurant-it'll have you going back over and over!
A very unpleasant experience. Terrible staff led by an equally ill mannered Manager. Just coz my son looks older than a 2 year old the manager accused us of trying to lie about the age. I guess the restaurant thinks that they will continue to attract good crowds. One thing they fail to realize is that if they want customers to go back to the restaurant they better train the staff (including the so called managers) better customer service.
I have no complaints about this restaurant. This is one of the best I have ever been to. Being a pure vegetarian, I am fully satisfied leaving this place happy. There is an unlimited variety of food, which is almost impossible to try everything. The fod is always heated properly, fresh and appearance is good. The service is also very good, the dirty plates get taken away very fast and friendly staff. I am surprised to read the bad comments about Brar, this is definetely a recommendation. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.
Their islington location ...the original location is amazing.......something happened when they opened this location...just not the same.... im east indian and travelled the world...i know my food...
Normally don't post reviews anywhere, but we've been going here for a mid-week lunch buffet for a couple of years and I can't believe some of the negative comments I'm reading. I'm not Indian, but have a well-developed taste for spicy foods like Indian and Caribbean. I'm also far from a vegetarian, but the buffet food here is superb, so much so that I'll choose this restaurant over any of the other meat or meat-free buffets Indian in the City. The cooks do a great job of balancing the flavours, never using the spices to overpower the food, leaving enough of the heat and/or other flavouring to make the food great. We always leave feeling like we ate very well. And the service has always been friendly and attentive. Maybe the weekends are a little different, busy and reduced quality of service but I have nothing negative to say about any of our visits, except Top Notch all the way.
Well, this is my second time at this location and I must admit I was disappointed. The food was too bland that I ended up eating the pasta and onion rings that they offer. I tried to try a bit of everything, but after a while it all started to taste the same!!!! Unless someone can convince me otherwise, I don't think I will be coming back again!!!!
This is the first buffet I've ever been to where i can feast on whatever my heart desires. Most dishes are vegan, and all are vegetarian. The food tastes great. I'm sure the service could be improved for some, though I go to restaurants to eat, so as long as i get my drinks and the dirty plates are removed, I am pretty much satisfied. Good atmosphere, and the chefs are happy to answer any questions one may have.
The atmosphere is so noisy and smelly that we feel like we are in fish market!!!! And to add more to it they have TV with Hindi songs with poor sound quality. All the veg items taste same and roti like a rubber. None of the items were warm, forget getting them hot. Very disappointing and will never visit again.
I went with friends and found it to be a good restaurant and buffet. I live close to Little India in the Gerrard and Coxwell area of Toronto and was quite impressed with the quality of the dishes and the price. $55 dollars for four adults is very reasonable.
I go to Brar's all the time. The food is delicious and its one of our favourite places to eat. The new location is a definite must see.
nice food will come again......i read some more reviews .........if u are new to Indian food, please don't criticize the food but create habit to enjoy it rather criticizing it ..........please respect the food and culture of other country..
Have you seen a Vegetarians Paradise? Well, here is your moment of Zen! After reading the ton of other reviews about rude waiters and average food, I didn't have much expectations of Brars when I went there. I still went there since I've heard so much about it. The place is definitely an A++ in my list of restuarants. I'm extremely picky and if you can pay $10 at Red Robins for burgers/fries, you wouldn't mind paying the same amount for an awesome feast of 100 dishes from Chaat, Indo-Chinese, Soups, Salads, 20 desserts, 10 ice creams etc. Agreed, their service is not the friendliest, but the food and the variety is to die for. I had to wait 20mins for my lunch and the waiting area is pretty small. They're doing their best to accommodate irate desis waiting for food. For the guys who said 'Worst food ever tasted', I'd say they don't know Jack. Agreed some of the sauces were the same, but when you have 16 entrees to choose from, some sauces have to be the same. All I can say is being from Ann Arbor, Michigan, I don't mind driving to Toronto just for a meal at Brar's again. They're coming with a Breakfast buffet soon, can't wait to try it out....

Aptly named, Brars’ Grand Buffet is open for lunch (11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and dinner (5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.). Authentically Indian, the buffet is entirely vegetarian, consisting of dishes like paneer, samosas, aloo gobi and vegetable biryani. The restaurant first opened in 1986 and now has two locations, one in Etobicoke and one in Brampton, as well as their own line of Indian products sold at Wal Mart and Loblaws.
