Attention all foodies! This restaurant is a MUST TRY!! We ordered the tasting menu (don't forget to give 24 hrs notice), it was absolutely incredible. Pricey but worth it! The portion sizes were huge, we could barely make it out the door. The wait staff is incredible, we were asked upon arrival what our preferred pace for eating was, quick or nice and easy....who does that? Most restaurants want you in and OUT! I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant, incredible food, service, atmosphere, and attention to detail! Barrie has about 7 good restaurants....this one's near the top!!
We dropped in for a late lunch and found a very pleasant ,smaller, owner run restaurant. Greeted by the owner ( John) and our server (Val ?) was charming and helpful with our queries. The food was very good and served quickly. We will definitely go back. It is a type of restaurant where you would feel comfortable in asking for special things to be added or left out of your dishes. I love "extra, extra" garlic and they were only too happy to accomodate. A good team. The portions are more than sufficient. The menu is well-focused, yet covers all aspects and I think this allows for better , fresher, and more locally supplied products. Try it...you will like it. :-)
The .atmosphere was lovely and the service was very good. The appitizer we got was just amazing. The pasta however was nothing special. I would deffinitly go back as I would love to try some of their non-pasta dishes.
Menu changes are great. They do this a lot which i find to be a great idea. I don't get board this way. Our guests loved this restaurant. You have to visit a try their features. They also have promotions all the time. I love italian food and you can't go wrong at Gio's. No way!! We had great wine and great fun, we will be back very soon. Keep up the hard work.
My experience at Gio's in Bradford was great! Went with 3 of my friends and enjoyed everything. Was greated by a young man who was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the drinks we ordered. Offered us a great feature menu. After drinks we were greeted by a young girl that looked like she was about to go to a concert. She seemed nice but completely out of place in this restaurant. She approached the table by asking simply "are you ready". Luckily for her we had no questions about the menu and all ordered the same thing. The young man that greeted us came back several times to make sure that we were okay and even took photos for us. It left us asking why Avril was necessary! (Avril Levegne) Still had a great time and hope that everyone gets to try the place out!
Great evening with good friends and an exceptional meal. Our server was outstanding, she was very attentive, friendly and knowledgable of all menu, wine, desserts and features. It sure is nice to see that there are restaurants out there that still cook and serve with passion, use fresh ingredients and employ friendly knowledgable servers. Everyone at our table enjoyed everything. My carpaccio was of the best I have ever tasted, I loved the sea salt sprinkle. Pasta's were fresh and perfectly cooked and the dessert to die for. My personal opinion was that this little Gio's restaurant has gone "over the top" with quality and service. Great job!
The food was good quality, authentic Italian food. Probably one of the better places to eat in Barrie. The value for the entrees was good, but the bruschetta we ordered was over $10 and we only got four tiny pieces. Also I thought the atmosphere left a lot to be desired. My seat was facing right into the kitchen, decor was mediocre, tables were crowded, chairs were uncomfortable, dessert menu was a computer-typed scrap of paper, etc. When I saw the menu online and the price range and quality of food, I expected a more formal and elegant atmosphere. If they spruced up the dining room and upped the class, I would be much more inclined to make it one of our regular spots.
Jus tbland and boring tasteless food I have tried both places and the same ... why not get one restaurant right and then expand.
My boyfriend and I choose Gios for our Valentines day romantic dinner. I had the Calamari and my date the escargot. They were magnificant, the escagots especially, since i picked my dates plate clean aswell. For our mains we had Lobster and Con Pollo ( chicken fettecine) Both dishes were served hot and were absolutely perfect, the scallops were huge, and the heart shaped polenta was such a sweet touch. Dessert however was the highlight of my night, the Chocolate peanutbutter terrine was the most devine dessert I have ever tasted. The service was friendly and prompt, and the atmosphere in the restaurant was warm and romantic. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, and will most deffinately visit again.
My boyfriend took me here for Valentine's Day and I was very impressed. To say the food was excellent would be an understatement! The service was very warm and professional and all of our dishes were served with perfect timing. We both had an wonderful experience and will definately be back! The rose that came with the bill was also a nice touch.
This review is for the Bradford location, but they dont have a specific listing for it. This evening felt like i was in an episode of gordon ramseys kitchen nightmares as this "gio" has absolutely no clue how to run a restaurant and needs some help badly. First for the nitpicky. For a restaurant that has reservations you would imagine a table would be set by the time you arrive, which wasn't the case. In addition, a restaurant who's meals are around $20 on average you don’t expect to see ikea cutlery or glasses used, not that ikea isn't a great store, it just don't belong in a restaurant trying to be more upscale. The choice of entertainment for the night was a misguided attempt. An older gentleman with an electronic keyboard whose volume was way too loud playing music, it was not needed and was more disturbing than nice. But these are minor issues. The big ones are service and food. Granted I was there on valentines day, so it is a busy night. But, that’s why they have a limited menu for this even including a set course dinner for couples which we chose. Presuming that since it’s a set course, the dishes would be carefully made and probably come out quickly since the restaurant wasn’t even full. This was a bit of a mistake. After waiting an hour, our romantic candle having burned out I finally got the attention of the waitress and asked her when the Caesar salad would arrive and if I could have a new candle and refill on water. I was told that the kitchen was “over whelmed” and that’s why there was a delay. As for the salad, well it looked nice and tasted ok, but it consisted of only about 6 leafs. The other courses were a bit quicker to arrive but was still on average of 20min. Our pasta dishes were luke warm and very bland. The main course was pretty good, I had chicken and my date had salmon which was well cooked. Unfortunately mine was supposed to come with potato and what I got was a thinly sliced potato that looked grey/green and was definitely not completely cooked. The dessert was a lava cake that I would consider average. The biggest insult was probably that the owner hid behind the bar the whole night, not even once coming out to apologize. He did send the waitress to offer a “mixed drink” but considering we wernt’ drinking this wasn’t particularly appropriate. In the end the bill came at $90 and two business cards with a “Free app” written on the back. I gave them back to “Gio” and said it would have been a lot more effective if he had simply come to our table and apologize. In which he replied “I was too busy” and walked away. If he had simply walked around with a bottle of house wine and offered a free glass and an apology for the delay it would have been ok, even if we didn’t drink. But with his attitude I hope him the worst misfortune and await the day a “for lease” sign sits in his window as it will surely come if he doesn’t’ smarten up.
awesome. i will tell everyone i meet. sevice and italian food, top notch!
Being realatively new to Barrie I rely on this website to find good restaurants and it did not let me down when I came across Gio's. We were greeted by friendly staff and seated immediately. My wife requested a slight modification to the entree and they were more than willing to accomodate. Both meals were excellent and my wife commented on how warm the meal was when it was delivered to our table. We will definately return and will be bringing friends to show them our new discovery. If I were to suggest an improvement it would be on the cut of the veal(tougher than I would have tought) Overall and very nice experience!
We are regulars at Gios and service has always been top notch. We had a party of 14 for a 50th birthday. We all had appetizers, full entrees and many bottles of wine as well as after dinner drinks. I was utterly shocked when the birthday cake arrived and shortly thereafter as did our bill. After 14 people with apps, meals, after dinner drinks, our cake bill was $100. Outrageous - we will never return.
Molto buono. Quaint and relaxing.A gem in the rough. Awesome food and absolutely the friendliest staff imaginable.Definately a must for Itailian food in Barrie.
The restaurant seats about 30 people indoors and maybe another 15 outside. The food was attractively served and the service was great.
Went for our anniversary dinner. One of the best meals I've ever had. Service was great. Cozy intimate atmosphere, only about 10 tables in the restaurant. Portions aren't huge, but we didn't leave hungry. Yum Yum Yum. Only downside is it's a little expencive (for my budget at least) We each had the steak dinner and shared the brushetta and a salad. The bill came to $85 before tip (we didn't have wine or any alcahol) Which isn't real bad for the quality of the meal, but a bit more than I can usually afford to spend on going out to dinner. Will be going back, but will probably have to save it for special occasions.
fabulous food. cozy restaurant with only a few tables. our server was awesome. she ran the place by herself, and she was pleasant, friendly, knowledgable and quick. she got a really great tip from us. food was fabulous. all well prepared and very tasty. huge portions of pasta. ia te it for 2 days afterwards as leftovers. dessert sounded rich and heavy, but was very light and satisfying. lattes were wonderful. wine was especially good. excellent restaurant - we will definately be back.
We have been to Gio's many, many times. Never have we had a complaint. Service has always been friendly and prompt, but not so that you felt rushed. The last time we were there, I had forgotten my glasses and was struggling to read the menu, particularly with the low lighting. Wagner noticed me struggling, and surprise! He appeared at our table with a pair of cheater glasses that he keeps on hand, especially for people like me! What a lifesaver! I didn't have to depend on someone else to order from the menu for me. Thank you to John, Wagner and the staff for always providing a wonderful meal and delightful wines!
I left a message on the restaurants voice mail to make a reservation before they opened and my call was quickly returned to confirm my reservation. We were greeted in a very friendly manner. We experienced outstanding service and our food was perfect. Everything including presentation, food freshness and portion size was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who does not mind spending a little extra money for superb food. I have not found a quaint little restaurant like this one in a long time. I believe that Gio’s would be a great choice for any occasion. I will definitely be passing the word to all my family and friends.
