Well we have gone to this restaurant a few times but after tonight never ever again .! The waitress did not speak grabbed and snatched our menus out of our hands. Did not offer drinks had to wave my hands around to get a waitress. Food came quickly did not taste bad. But the waitress came once and once only! A glass broke while drinking out of it. We were not offered a new glass or a new drink! There were 4 sushi rollers and they began god awful horking noises and were spitting in the sink! In t
I dont understand the previous negative reviews...? I have been going here for years and the food has been always good. I have never received bad service. The service is average but never bad. Everything is fresh and tasty. Our favourites are Dynamite roll, Volcano Roll, Bonsai Roll to name a few.. Don't listen to the previous negative reviews - makes no sense why they are complaining! I've been going here for years and will continue to as well...Thanks
Went to this restaurant with a friend. The quality of the food has gotten poorer over the years. Aside from the sub-par food however, the employees are extremely rude. Because I understand their native tongue, I knew exactly what they were saying about every table. The employees constantly circled around us and gave rude remarks about some customers once in a while; extremely unprofessional. Some of the things that were said made me lose a bit of my appetite. Worst of all, they were debating between how much to overcharge my friend and I because we overordered. Despite the fact that we left five pieces of sushi behind, they overcharged us $3 each without saying a word. I told the employee that it was ridiculous and that I could go to any AYCE chain in Toronto and they would not even consider overcharging me. She said that it was impossible and I told her that neither I or my friend would ever come back. I think I would rather give my money to those who actually train their employees to treat their customers right. Will NEVER go back to this place.
First off the Sushi is terrific and the spicey mayo on some of their dishes is borderline addictive (ask for extra) but there is a bit more rice than usual for a sushi restaurant. The service is terrible. They exude a sort of passive aggressive rudeness, especially when you ask for 5ths 6ths and if you're lucky 7ths of their dishes. I'm a big guy and they pretty much ignored my last order as I ate about 8 orders of their sushi in a matter of an hour. I'd go again but there are better sushi restaurants in Barrie.
This was the first sushi place I tried in Barrie, and is what got me into sushi. However, now that I have tried other places, I dont think I will go back to ajisai. Their rolls are far too big and have way too much rice on them. Very so-so food compared some other places in Barrie.
This is an amazing restaurant. The food is delicious and staff are pleasant. I come to this restaurant about every third week. The food takes about 15 minutes to get to your table and the servers are always watching to see if you need anymore. I have no idea why other people thought this was a bad restaurant. The only downside is that the servers don't speak perfect english, and most people can deal with that. Try the dynamite maki and the spicy salmon hand rolls, they are to die for.
I don't know why there are so many negative reviews about this place. My boyfriend and I visited this place for the first time a few days ago, and I have to say that we were both incredibly impressed. Despite what the other reviews have said, the servers were NOT rude. The servers were incredibly friendly, although sometimes hard to understand since they were Japanese. The food is absolutely delicious and they have a wide variety to choose from on the menu. The restaurant is very clean and quiet. Our food DID take awhile to come out to us, but that is ONLY because it is fresh and made right in front of you. The chefs put in ALOT of time and care into making the sushi. I would DEFINITELY come back again and I would DEFINITELY recommend this restaurant to others. Ignore the bad reviews.
I admit their service was not the greatest, but they have improved the last three times I have gone. The food is great and they have a awesome menu. Note to any one who is going for the first time get the mango ice cream! It can get a little loud inside but its always with laughter of people having a good time. I am also a big scary cat for thinking people spit in my food, that's why I like that you can see them making the sushi. Over all I love it there, eat there at least once a month :)
I really enjoyed this place. They have a good selection of menu items and they are all delicious and well prepared. It is an AYCE sushi place, you just keep asking for food and they keep bringing it, all for one buffet price. Everyone in our group had a great time and the service was excellent.
Aji Sai has been one of my favorite places for the past year or so. I have come to realize the service is not the best, but a quick suggestion; it's not that the service is bad it's that you have to get their attention. Because it's not a buffet, you must rely on them to help you. I believe they don't want to intrude on a conversation so they wait for you attention. Overall the food is by far amazing, and the service is good.
Delicious stuff. Clean and efficient. I think that the over polite japanese way is what causes service to seem short. They'd rather not offend you if they you don't want them there, but if you call them they're there in a jiffy.
My husband and several friends love this place! we go every single sunday. I disagree with some of the comments... only when its really busy is the service lacking. If you get there early you will have fast service. Most of the servers do not speak english well so if you talk a little slower or point to what you want on the menu you will never go wrong. If you want more ask for it when they clear your dishes. We all enjoy it very much and will definatly be back on sunday.
The service is awful and the food is not worth the visit. I would not recomend this restaurant.
Poor service, rude servers and terrible food. Will not visit again!
If you look back to the first or second page of Aji Sai's reviews, you can see how pleased I was to have a good AYCE sushi place in Barrie. We moved away temporarily and returned for the second time in a month this evening. Our first visit two weeks was simply average, with the normal good food and slow service. Tonight, however, was absymal. The food ranged from very good (crab cakes, chicken wings) to average (rolls, tempura shrimp) to utterly inedible (sushi pizzas fried to the consistency of hockey pucks and topped with a bland "spicy" salmon). Our service was -- at best -- non-existent. I don't expect much from the staff at AYCE places, but I do expect to get refills on drinks. Three times we asked for a second water for my wife, and never got one. Tea was never offered, even though I gave back the three cups we didn't need and asked for one for myself. Our soy sauce ran out and I had to go switch it for another on the table, with one of the wait staff waving me toward it. Nearly every person we encountered on the staff was either indifferent or flat-out rude. The woman who brought the ice cream basically threw them onto the table, and when we were served the inedible sushi pizza, that was almost thrown at us. The restaurant was not particularly busy, so that's no excuse. The bottom line is Aji Sai has fallen down from the level it had attained early in its life. Don't waste your time or your money.
My girlfriend took me to Aji Sai for lunch for my birthday... we made our first order of 2 hand rolls, soup, salad and wontons... we waited 15 minutes after eating until having to wave down our waitress for a drink refill and another order of a hand roll and soup.. 10 minutes later we get our drinks and she tells us it's last call for lunch if we want to order... so we inform her we have already made our second order... we wait... and wait... and WAIT... finally we decide to leave (it had been 45 minutes after we made our 2nd order)... so we were both completely turned off... when we went to pay... we asked for a discount being dissatisfied with the service... as we are fairly regular patrons... after a mild argument, they agreed to give us a 10% discount on our meals of $10.99 ea.... we certainly didn't tip... and when we left the bill was over $26... so much for a discount.. and so much for valuing your customers... i'll have to think twice before going there again... the service is never great, but today was ridiculous!
We had to wait a very long time for the waitress to take our drink/food orders, but it was 5:30pm so it was understandable. Upon ordering, the food came out right away. We found the red dragon rolls too "loosely" rolled, but tasted delicious. For Barrie sushi, it was very good, however compared to Toronto restaurants, it would get about a 2. The table are extremely close together, and at times we felt clausterphobic. Other than that, it's a nice place to eat if you randomly feel like sushi but don't want to go far. I will mostly likely go back! :)
great sushi...pretty bad service since it's all you can eat (not buffet though)
Best in Class! For lunch for just over $10.00, you would pay easy 4 times that at other Sushi restaurant in town. I go here once a week. Yes, there is a communications barrier, but once you get to know what is on the menu, and what you like, ordering is a snap. The waitress will take your drink order as soon as you are seated, and when she returns with your drink (Which is almost immediately) she will take your order. Here is where the problem can occur. During my first visits to AJI SAI I was taking over an hour for lunch. If you don't order immediately, you will have to wait for the waitress to return, if you don't order all at once, you will have to wait long periods between orders. Once you know what you like, or at least enough to get you started, place your order as soon as she brings the drink. You will have your Sushi in no time. If you order in stages, you will wait much longer.
Not the healthiest sushi I've ever had, but absolutely delicious. Editor's note: Thanks Danny, for alerting us to spam.
