The Organic and Natural Food Supermarket

Whole Foods opened their first location at Park Royal and I eagerly awaited their arrival at Cambie Street when i saw the sign go up that they were locating their. Little did I realize that this meant the demise of my favourite Capers location just up the street at 16th and Cambie. For that reason it has taken me a long time to warm to this store. This store does not have the same vibe as the West van store but I think that is partly due to the space they have to work with. That said, they carry the best selection of organic and natural and special diet products in Vancouver. The prices are reasonable, if not a little steep at times but they often have specials that take the bite out of the grocery bill a little. They are the store to buy organic dairy products as the organic milk is the cheapest in town on a daily basis. The meat department is a full service butcher and everything is clean and fresh looking...that said the meat can tend to be a bit pricey. The bakery is good and the ready to go foods are always yummy. All in all this is a pretty good store and great for those of us who try to maximize the organic foods that we eat.

Vancouver's best spots for savoury samosas

Vancouver's best spots for savoury samosas

Next time you visit Whole Foods for coconut water and kale, consider grabbing a potato and pea samosa from their well-stocked deli case. Roasted in a bed of herbs and spices and served with spicy chutney, the crispy pastry is a tasty reward for finishing the week’s shopping – and its a healthy(ish) one, too, with all natural ingredients such as enriched whole wheat flour and pressed canola oil, among others.

Sweet spots for healthy baked goods in Vancouver

Sweet spots for healthy baked goods in Vancouver

From muffins and cookies to scones and squares, there’s no shortage of baked goods to be found at Whole Foods. While many of their snacks and pastries may appear healthy, I know better. Hence why I stick to their Healthy Starts Here (HSH) options, including their almond-flour based blueberry muffin. And when it’s dark chocolate I’m craving, I’ll hit up the Whole Foods on Cambie for Uprising Bakery’s vegan chocolate chunk cookie. It’s not easy to find this cookie, hence why I buy double per visit, freezing one for later. Which, truth be told, often comes sooner than later.
