Regular guests of Homer St. Cafe and Bar are used to overhearing others happily exclaim, “this doesn’t feel like Vancouver!” as they dine. Nestled on the corner of Homer and Smithe, the cafe's Parisian-brasserie-meets-New-York-hotel atmosphere leaves patrons wondering how it came to be.
“The cafe has so much character, we’re always getting questions about where pieces originated from,” says manager Darren Kaushal. Taking as much inspiration from elsewhere as it does from Vancouver, the café is located in the recently restored Homer Building, the former home of a dye works, steam cleaner, ice delivery shop and, finally, the original Homer Café, a dining landmark in the 1960s.
“Our designer did a great job incorporating the historic building we're housed in,” says Darren. Comprised of a full bar and two split-level atriums, Homer St. Cafe’s hand-crafted mosaic tiles, reclaimed timber and classic wood paneling are at once grand and rustic – a truly unique experience in the heart of glossy Yaletown.

A chic urban take on a country farmhouse, this beautifully appointed Yaletown restaurant is befitting of the neighbourhood, while the storied heritage building gives it some historic charm. Polished white marble tables and eye-catching mosaic floor tiles have made this photogenic interior an Instagrammer’s dream, but the real star here is the fire engine red rotisserie on display in the open kitchen. We expect in-the-know couples will flock to Homer Street Café during the Dine Out festival for the three-course dinner menu that’ll feature sophisticated farmhouse cooking such as rotisserie beef loin, cast iron veggies and other seasonal comforts.

Smoked duck, trout tartare, ling cod with lobster and leeks and a rotisserie rack of lamb. The food also comes with recommended wine pairings.

Homer Street’s creative VIFFtail is the I Always Wanted to be a Tenenbaum (an ode to the Wes Anderson classic The Royal Tenenbaums) and features an intriguing mix of Famous Grouse whisky, vermouth, Luxardo Bitter Bianco and lemon.
