Much to diners' delights, Farmer’s Apprentice feels like it's literally attached to an organic farm — so effortlessly rustic is the decor and so fresh are the ingredients. Of course, there are no farms in South Granville, so the 30-seat bistro offers the next best thing: organic, local food in a relaxed, bohemian setting.
Taking the farm-to-table movement to the next level, head chef and owner Dave Gunawan purchases boxes of ingredients each week from local growers. He then does what rural folk have for centuries: he cooks with what the earth provides — and nothing more.
“It's based on what the farmers have to give us,” says Dave, who opened the restaurant in 2013 after cutting his teeth in prestigious kitchens around the globe. “We cook sensitively, based on the weather and our emotions,” he continues.

Look for elevated yet nostalgic dishes such as meatloaf, Yorkshire pudding, raspberry ketchup and farmhouse cheddar sauce; vegetable lasagna; and pork chop with mushroom sauce, wild rose and chocolate cookies, and vanilla and tonka bean ice cream.
