Great spots for pizza lovers on Vancouver's Commercial Drive

Great spots for pizza lovers on Vancouver's Commercial Drive

Capers, smoked salmon, fresh dill and garlic oil may sound like they belong in a salad, but Lombardo’s disagrees – these ingredients are the makings of a dill-icious pizza. You can even get it in calzone form! That’s only one of the 20 delicious pizzas offered here.

More than two decades of the best award-winning, wood-fired oven-baked pizza has kept thin crust aficionados coming back for more. Patti Lombardo's original location on Commercial Drive — Vancouver's 'little Italy' — established Lombardo's reputation for traditional pizza al forno (literally oven baked). With the breeze blowing in the right direction, you'll catch a whiff of the wood smoke from her oven. Follow your nose into the Il Mercato shopping centre and you’ll think you’ve died and gone to pizza heaven.

Where to find Vancouver’s tastiest lasagne

Where to find Vancouver’s tastiest lasagne

There’s no shortage of Italian restaurants on Commercial Drive, but Lombardos has to be one of our faves. First opened in 1986, the family-owned trattoria has a long history in the neighbourhood and is regularly filled with locals enjoying wood-fired pizzas and house-made pasta dishes. The signature lasagne features layers of green spinach noodles and beef ragu topped with béchamel sauce, all served with a side of focaccia bread. Bonus: smartphone-toting foodies who post about their meal online will receive a social media appreciation card and get 15 per cent off the bill.
